Roding Mobility Celebrates the 24h Rad am Ring 2023

A Minor Anniversary, Plenty of Team Spirit, and New Challenges

This year marked Roding Mobility’s fifth participation in the legendary 24h Rad am Ring. Three four-member teams took on the challenging course on the infamous Nordschleife and celebrated a minor anniversary. Particularly pleasing was the participation of five friendly guest starters, who integrated seamlessly into the team. Even though there were no common training sessions beforehand, the collaboration worked like clockwork, and the laps were completed regularly.

The technically demanding course w”th r’pid descents of over 100km/h and a total of 560 metres of elevation per 26km lap pushed the riders to their limits, with inclines of up to 18%. In the first 8-10 hours, Team 1 and 3 were engaged in an exciting battle with constant lead changes. However, during the night, Team 3 managed to break away by about 30 minutes from Team 1 and maintained this lead until the finish line on Sunday. Team 2 also stayed within striking distance, with the night demanding a great deal of physical and mental strength. One rider even completed two laps in a row to allow his team longer recovery breaks.

With the first daylight, the wind increased significantly. All riders had to contend with gusts of up to 50km/h and constant headwinds between 20-30 km/h on the endlessly long straight of Döttinger Höhe. In the morning, everyone mobilized their last forces and reserves. Unfortunately, the wind gusts reached speeds of over 60km/h in the late afternoon, and rain set in. After a rider fell and the wind conditions became increasingly critical, the organizer decided to prematurely end the race at 11:00 am after 22 hours.

The rankings

The Roding teams achieved remarkable results: out of over 790 teams, the three teams came in 199th, 249th, and 583rd places.

A great performance, underscoring the challenges of the demanding course and adverse weather conditions.

The infamous Nordschleife had a few surprises in store again this year. Everybody could grow beyond his/her own limits and successfully fight against physical and mental doubts. But it’s these challenges that make the race so special. We’re already looking forward to next year with great anticipation and are motivated to start the next training season. See you in 2024, Nordschleife – we‘ll be back!
